Wednesday Links: January 9th, 2008
I’m going to have a few “topic days” here to help me stick to a regular posting schedule. From now I’ll be highlighting some of my favorite articles and sites that pertain to web development and freelancing every Wednesday. Here’s the first batch:
Is Digg/Reddit Traffic Useless? 45 Days Later… at Wake Up Later
Wake Up Later is one of my favorite sites these days. I love the design and it’s backed with some of the best freelancing content around. The post from Tuesday called “Is Digg/Reddit Traffic Useless? 45 Days Later…” isn’t your typical look at the infamous Digg Effect that you might be used to. There are excellent points made about the benefits and harsh realities that come with getting Dugg. It’s a good read and just a highly recommended site in general.
Is Craigslist Worth the Time? Tips to Stay Profitable at Positive Space
For anyone who has thought about using the job listings at Craigslist to find freelance work I think you should take a minute and read “Is Craigslist Worth the Time? Tips to Stay Profitable” over at Positive Space. Anthony’s experience and outlook on the Craigslist job scene closely echos my own but if you still insist on testing the waters make sure and read his tips before you do.
100 Excellent Free WordPress Themes at Smashing Magazine
The kings of the list at Smashing Magazine have posted an enormous collection of “100 Excellent Free WordPress Themes with large thumbnails so you can get a quick look at each theme. They’ve even taken the time to break all 100 themes down and organize them into eight categories.
Avoid Getting Duped by Freelance Writing Clients at Chrisblogging.com
I’ve been reading Chris’ site for awhile now and he posts great stuff every day. While most of his content pertains to freelance writing I find that you can draw a lot of parallels to what he says to freelance web development also. With that said you should check out his post from last week called “Avoid Getting Duped by Freelance Writing Clients” to get his take on surviving difficult clients.
If you have a link that you think I might like check out please send it my way.

I think it’s a great idea to have “topic days”. I need to start doing something like that…
BTW: I like how you actually wrote a paragraph about each link. Not just a title and Click Here. Really cool! Hope I get a write up. ;)
