When I find myself in the middle of client work or looking for a quick change of pace I like to build small projects. The sites listed below are some of my favorite projects I’ve recently completed or I’m still currently working on.

Fore Score Golf Stats

Fore Score Golf Stats is, of all my projects, the most important on this list. It’s the ultimate combination of my interests: web development and the hellish game of golf. With Fore Score Golf Stats users are able to track their courses and rounds and have a ton of stats based on their scores presented to them. I’m constantly adding new features and building on top of the statistics reporting that Fore Score Golf Stats offers.

Jack’s Sports Report

Jack’s Sports Report is a network of news aggregation sites for regional sports. It originally began with a traditional blog called the Ohio Sports Report that had a behind-the-scenes news crawler that would email the blog writers with hourly news updates for each team. Eventually the blog was removed and the news crawler was re-worked and became the face of the site. Over time more regions were added to cover sports in Michigan, New England, New York City, and the Northwest. A site dedicated to professional golfers called Jack’s Golf Report is part of Jack’s Sports Report also.

This network of news aggregators has proven to be both fun to build, useful for its visitors and profitable. At this point the crawler is refined enough that all of the sites basically run on auto pilot and my only involvement is to occasionally add new sources for each team. I still have a number of regional domains standing by to add more sites to the network.

WordPressings

In the interest of “giving something back” to the WordPress community I launched a free theme site called WordPressings.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get this going as actively as I had originally hoped. Right now there is only one free theme available on the site with another one waiting to be coded and posted. My hope is to add more themes during the upcoming year.

Yellow Fade Technique

I have a yellow fade technique script available for download on this site. It’s several years old now but it still works fine so hopefully someone can get some use out of it. It was slightly unique at the time of its release because it worked off of element IDs which, in hindsight, seems like a rather obvious idea.
